From the recording Summer Solstice
When I first started writing songs, I was obsessed with seasons and so, instead of writing the actual day and month, I would write "Summer '85" or "Autumn '82" and so on. But rarely, if ever, would I NOT put some kind of date reference. Except for this song. I released it on my 26 song compilation, "Summer Solstice" and it does not exist anywhere in with all those other songs so it must have been written hastily around the same time, 1993. The same thing happened in 2006 as I was recording "Once Upon a Chime... in my Head". Creative juices flowed and I wrote a few songs from scratch. Ah well... the mystery may never be solved and I don't much care, really. I just like the playful silliness of this song that I wrote when my Mom said I should write more Country tunes. Well... I reckon you should listen to it now...
Lyrics
Fine As Fine Can Be
Well burn my britches and call me "Dusty"
My guitar strings done turnin' rusty
I been pickin' and a grinnin'
While they're off a-singin'
And I'm as fine as fine can be...
Cause there's a sweet little girl's got her eyes on me.
Well piss in my boots n' call me "Floods"
I ain't never gonna wear no western duds
But if she doesn't want me
Wearin' no civvies
Well that's as fine as fine can be
Cause this sweet little girl's got her eyes on me
If she ain't the sweetest thaing I ever did see
She got a friendly smile that spreads
From sea to sea, yeah
She make me happy, she make me sing
She make me wanna buy a diamond ring
And that's fine as fine can be
Cause this sweet little thaing's got her eyes on me
Well yank my belt and call me "Wedgie"
That sweet little girl you know she said she'd
Never be blue and always be true
And that's as fine as fine can be
Cause this sweet little girl's got her eyes on me
If she ain't the sweetest thaing I ever did see
She got a friendly smile that spreads
From sea to sea, yeah
She make me happy, she make me sing
I reckon I'll buy a diamond ring
And I'm as fine as fine can be
Cause this sweet little thaing's got her eyes on me
Yeah this sweet little thaing's got her eyes on me
She got her eyes on me...
